This 1832 Full Sovereign was issued under the reign of King William IV, who ascended to the throne in 1830 following the death of his brother. The release of the new coinage was delayed as the Mint took great care to capture an accurate representation of the King for the coin’s obverse. The effort paid off, for the final product was an engraving that bore a striking resemblance to King William IV, executed by the Master Engraver, Mr. Wyon, from a model prepared by the esteemed sculptor, Mr. Chantrey.

  • Reverse Design: On the flip side, the coin showcases a decorative shield of royal arms (England, Scotland, and Ireland) with the arms of the House of Hanover at the center. The design is crowned and labeled with ‘ANNO 1832’ below​
  • Material & Size: Made from 22-carat gold, the coin has a weight of 7.98 grams and a diameter of 22.05 millimeters. The edge of the coin is milled, contributing to its unique aesthetic​
  • Historical Significance: The coin commemorates the reign of King William IV (1830 – 1837), making it a fascinating piece from a relatively short reign in British history​
