Description
First struck in 1489, the Sovereign remains one of the most iconic symbols of the British monarchy. While the coin traditionally features Benedetto Pistrucci’s famous St George and the Dragon design, each Jubilee edition introduced a unique reverse design to commemorate these landmark occasions.
The 2002 Golden Jubilee Sovereign features a shield of the Royal Arms by Timothy Noad alongside the fourth definitive portrait of The Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley. The 2012 Diamond Jubilee Sovereign presents a modern interpretation of St George and the Dragon by sculptor Paul Day. Completing the set, the 2022 Platinum Jubilee Sovereign features a specially created Royal Arms design by Timothy Noad, celebrating Her Majesty becoming the first British monarch to mark a Platinum Jubilee.
Together, these coins honour over 70 years of duty, service, and royal history
